“Beyond” is an immersive mural installation created in collaboration with the Iranian artist Maryam Nejad in 2007.
Expanding across all four walls, the painted environment dissolves the architectural boundaries of the room, inviting the viewer to enter a landscape suspended between memory, dream, and the unknown. Dark surfaces become fields of depth where luminous forms, imagined horizons, and celestial atmospheres emerge gradually, as if appearing from the threshold between night and consciousness.
The work does not depict a place. It creates a condition of perception.
Within “Beyond”, painting becomes an environment rather than an image. The viewer is surrounded by shifting spatial relationships in which orientation gives way to contemplation. The mural unfolds as a continuous horizon, encouraging movement through the space while suggesting an inward journey beyond the limits of ordinary vision.
Created through the dialogue between two artistic voices, the installation embraces difference not as contrast but as resonance. Individual gestures merge into a shared visual language where authorship becomes porous and painting evolves into a collective act of imagination.
“Beyond” proposes immersion as a form of encounter: with space, with the unseen, and with the infinite possibilities that emerge when perception is allowed to wander beyond what is already known.
